In Florida, conducting private investigations is strictly regulated by Florida Statute 493. The Florida Department of Agriculture is the licensing authority. All private investigators must be licensed. This process requires that investigators pass a test and have at least two years of verifiable experience conducting investigations. In addition, private investigators must work for or own their own agency, which also requires a license. If the investigator carries a firearm, a separate Florida Class “G” license is also required. Because of these requirements, hiring a legal, licensed private investigator can be expensive. However, you should take comfort in the fact that those who are licensed undergo inspections, have had a thorough background investigation, and have had their experience verified.
Before you hire a private investigator, be sure to check to see that their license is valid, and that they work for a valid, licensed agency. You can check the Florida Department of Agriculture’s Website HERE
You can be assured that Capstone Investigations, LLC is a licensed agency, and our investigator, Jeff Shearer, is a licensed investigator. We also carry liability insurance, which is above and beyond the requirements of the State.
